Background

Amanda was first introduced to Pilates as a young girl in ballet class. As she got older and started to dance professionally, she truly experienced the many benefits Pilates could provide to a dancer’s body.
After a health condition in 2005, she decided that it was time for a change, both mentally and physically, and pursued Pilates as her career. In 2006 she received her Pilates certification through Body Kinetics. She learned then that Pilates could benefit everyone, not just dancers, and that it is important to teach Pilates to anyone that is interested in learning.
Teaching for 10 years, Amanda has worked with clients of all ranges, from pre/post natal, to athletes, to post surgery rehab. With her extensive experience, she only further sees the benefits that Pilates brings to clients dealing with aging, chronic pain, injury and rehabilitation. Amanda’s classes and teaching style are both fun and challenging while still being mindful of the individual needs of each client.
Amanda graduated from UC San Diego with a degree in Psychology and Dance.

Why I Teach

I teach because I enjoy helping others. When someone comes to me and tells me that they were in pain when they started seeing me, but now they are pain free, then I know I am doing my job right! Learning more about how the body moves and functions, in order to keep my teaching fresh and continue to help others, is what keeps me going.

Why I Teach Pilates

I teach Pilates because I have always believed in the benefits it brings to my own body and I want to share that knowledge and belief with others. I started taking Pilates classes at a very young age in ballet class. I saw then the benefits that I, as a dancer, was experiencing with Pilates. I knew that it was very beneficial to athletes and performers. Then when I became injured I learned even more that Pilates can benefit everyone, not just dancers. I decided to pursue Pilates as a career to help others find the same benefits and joys that I have over the years.

My Teaching Style

My teaching style is based in the traditional Pilates method. Building on this as a foundation I like to add some creative movements to make my classes traditional while also being fun and challenging. I adapt my private sessions based on an individual’s specific needs. Whether a client is seeking to recover from injuries, heal after surgery, cross-train for a marathon, counter the effects of aging, or simply tone and strengthen their core, their private session will be designed for their success.
When I meet with a new client I discuss any past injuries they may have or any current pain they may be feeling. We will then discuss their “goals” and what they are hoping to achieve through their work with me. In this way we can both be on the same page when we we are working together. From there we will make a plan of what we hope to accomplish together. For those clients that are willing to go the extra mile, I will give them homework to work on on their days they are not seeing me. I find that these clients find results much quicker than those who only see me once or twice a week. I go over the results of their workouts with my clients often and check in with their success as we work together. I want them each to find all the benefit they can in their private sessions.

Fact. I'm obsessed with Maiden Lane Studios. Not in the creepy, restraining order type of way...but in the go 6-times a week type of way. I'll be honest, I never truly got the whole barre craze...until coming here. The classes are amazing (to the credit of the kick-ass instructors), and the studio is absolutely beautiful.

Maiden Lane Studios is the absolute best for Pilates and Barre Classes in San Francisco. I was introduced to the studio last year through lululemon and so glad I found my go-to place for an incredible strength training workout. It's like you're in someone's living room as the decor and feel of the place is so gorgeous and inviting.

I've tried other barre classes in the city and felt bored because they seemed the same, class after class. Not here. Every class challenges you and each instructor has something great to offer. I also LOVE that they offer more than just barre. Yoga, check. Pilates, check. It's a dream studio come true.

I have some very specific needs and have been challenged and accommodated beyond my expectations. Would never consider anywhere else...They create a supportive and positive environment unlike any other studio I've tried. Love it here!

Wow. I'm *STILL* feeling pumped 4 hours after my frist Booty Barre class this morning! This studio is fantastic and booty barre is seriously fun. I'd definitely recommend taking the 8:30am class with Naimah. She's an awesome teacher and totally kept me motivated throughout the class (even when it was kicking my ass). Excited to make visits here a regular part of my workout week!
