This summer, Maiden Lane Studios has connected with Blue House Farm and their community supported agriculture program. We’ve been enjoying their weekly collections of produce, recipes, and wine pairings courtesy of Blue House Farm and table Wine (a must visit wine merchant just down the coast in Pacifica).
About Blue House Farm’s CSA Program
Their Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program provides weekly boxes of organic, seasonal fresh produce from their farm in Pescadero, CA. CSA members make a commitment to support their farm throughout the season, and share in the bounty and the risks of growing food. By joining their CSA, members are developing a regional food supply and strong local economy, maintaining a sense of community, encouraging land stewardship, and honoring the direct link between the production and consumption of food. Most of the box contents are grown on their 40 acre farm in Pescadero.

This Week’s Recipe
From the rustic hand-shaped, herbed crust to the wonderful savory filling, this free form tart will please even the “pickiest” guests. Chosen as one of “The Best Recipes of 2009” by the Atlanta Journal Constitution, you can serve this as an entree with a salad to feed 4, or slice it into smaller appetizer wedges for 8. Enjoy!
This Week’s Wine Pairing
2008 Bauer Gruner Veltliner: Gruner Veltliner is an especially food-friendly wine: it works well with the traditional partners for mineral-rich, high-acid white wines– chicken and fish, but it also can handle more challenging matches, like asparagus and artichokes.
2013 Pittnauer “Pitti” Zweigelt/Blaufrankisch: From a Biodynamic estate comes the Pitti – a tasty blend of Zweigelt, Blaufrankisch and Merlot. Partial spontaneous carbonic maceration keeps the bright red berry fruit fresh and lively minerality provides balance. Perfect for your next schnitzel.
