“Best studios for stretch classes coast to coast”

“…stretching, it turns out, just might be the secret to taking your workout to the next level.”

“Gyms across the country are moving stretching out of the shadows and into the spotlight, offering full, often hour-long classes dedicated to the practice

“When you sit slouched over at your desk, your pectoral muscles and your hips get really tight and the lower back get weak and stiff,” says physical therapist Michelle Rodriguez.

“People turn to cardio for weight loss or cardiovascular conditioning or stress management or to blow off steam, but they don’t realize that if they just do that without stretching, there will be imbalances and asymmetries in the body.”

At Maiden Lane Studios, we offer a variety of stretch services, including yoga and Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) (learn more about FST)

FST is a comprehensive form of stretching that not only works to lengthen tight muscles, but more importantly it is a system that works from the core joints of the hips and shoulders and then into sheath of fascial tissue that surrounds muscle. Similar to Pilates, this concept of working from the core first is functional and holistic and the results from every session is staggering.

Clinic studies have shown FST can increase flexibility by up to 52% in just one session.

Athletes in a FST program have been found to recover more quickly between training sessions and gain an improved active range of motion than with other stretching methods.

FST helps with proper body alignment and posture, increases circulation and energy, and improves muscle, nerve, and joint function.

FST is a crucial form of body therapy, as there is no supplement or medication that helps improve the state of fascia in the body and exercise alone does not optimally balance, align, or improve fascia.

The gains made with consistent FST sessions not only aids in physical performance, but also helps reduce stress and ease tension from everyday life.

Kelsey

Certified Fascial Stretch Therapist
As the Director of Instruction and Senior Pilates Instructor at Maiden Lane Studios, and for as long as I can remember, I’ve been interested in movement, anatomy, and helping others. Teaching Pilates and barre have both been great conduits for pursuing these interests, but now with the addition of Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) under my belt, I’ve able to provide an even more therapeutic approach to helping others move and feel better.
When I was training for my first half-marathon, I incorporated regular FST sessions to my cross-training routine, and credit the success of that first race to these sessions. FST helped with the recovery after long runs, as well as helped me maintain proper alignment and connection to my body. With these positive results, I knew I had to obtain my advanced certification in FST.

Certified Fascial Stretch Therapist – Level II
Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is a unique modality that increases flexibility, mobility, and range of motion that is relatively pain free. It better aligns the body so that movement happens with better function and ease. The gains made with consistent FST sessions not only aids in physical performance, but also helps reduce stress and ease tension from everyday life.
I love helping people understand more about their bodies. My sessions allow time for understanding the sensitivity to the subtle body which is often neglected and yet very important. This intelligence being created adds value to people’s lives.
“FST is a godsend.
“Over the past five years, I tore my ACL three times, dislocated my shoulder, broke my jaw, broke two ribs, and tore my Achilles tendon. As a result, my body constantly believes it is “in recovery” whether I am injured or not. And muscles and tendons will tighten and compensate for imagined injury and phantom pain.
“Weekly FST sessions with Kelsey have kept me on my feet and active – biking, swimming, playing tennis. Though I stretch regularly at home and spend more time on a foam roller than I’d like, but the FST program augments this radically, stretches and lengthens difficult to reach corners of the body, and helps me remain limber and nimble for days.
“It has become a necessary part of my regimen of self-care and physical health, and I recommend it especially for those transitioning out of regular physical therapy programs looking for routine maintenance and further improvement.”
