Barre Classes in San Francisco

Maiden Lane Studios offers intimate sized barre classes as well as one-on-one private barre training. Our ballet barre based fitness offerings tone the entire body, burn calories and increase metabolism, while enhancing flexibility and endurance. Dynamic, fun, and low-impact, our barre instruction helps develop a lean, sculpted, dancer-like body. Classes are set to upbeat music to keep you energized and engaged.
All of Maiden Lane Studio’s barre instructors are either certified Pilates or yoga instructors, or have a strong background in movement and dance, adding expertise and functional movement to each class. We limit our class sizes to 12 people, less than half of what other studios allow, as we are committed to personalized attention and maintaining the safety and effectiveness of each session.

I took Bubbly at the Barre on a recent Saturday and it was fantastic - I really wish that something similar was available in NYC! I felt like it was very high quality teaching/moves but not the corporate feel of Bar Method or Pure Bar etc.

I never truly got the whole barre craze until coming here. The classes are amazing, and the studio is absolutely beautiful. I’ve tried other barre classes in the city and felt bored because they seemed the same, class after class. Not here.

I hesitated to write a review since I don’t want to give this gem away to too many people, but the owners and instructors deserve one. I've been taking Pilates reformer and Booty Barre classes for a few weeks now and have been so impressed by the caliber of the instructors, the immaculate studio (with great amenity perks like tea/coffee), and the condition/quality of the equipment.

Farrell | San Francisco

I can't tell you how much I love this place. We did the Saturday morning barre class with Kelsey and loved it. It's a total body workout you won't regret. The studio is clean, the staff are professional and I love the small class sizes.

The Barre on Maiden Lane

Best Barre Classes in San Francisco

Booty Barre®

Developed by Master Pilates instructor Tracey Mallett, The Booty Barre® is a ballet barre based program which applies the fundamentals of Pilates and yoga with dance, helping to strengthen and sculpt the entire body.
Unlike other barre programs, Booty Barre® does not rely on small isometric muscle contractions, which end up over working only a few muscle groups and ignoring the rest of the body. This can lead to body imbalances and even injuries. Instead, Booty Barre® incorporates more fluid, full-body, functional movement. Not only will you burn more calories with more cardiovascular work and see results quicker, but by exercising through a greater range of motion, Booty Barre® will help strengthen the body to prevent injuries, as it more closely mimics how we move in real life.
Our Booty Barre® classes incorporate floor work, barre work, and mat work with small accessories including hand weights, playground balls, and therapy bands.
Lose weight, tone the abs, legs, arms, back and hips, and as the name implies, The Booty Barre® helps create a firmer, higher, and rounder behind. All levels are welcome.

Barre Tone

Barre Tone is Maiden Lane Studios’ signature barre class that is a fusion of classical ballet barre work, dance, Pilates, and yoga. It’s an excellent class for those looking for a results-driven workout, and an intense, full-body burn.
Movements are fluid, full-body, and functional. Expect to use different props such as ankle weights, hand weights, therapy bands, and floor sliders in each class, which will deeply target all muscle groups and efficiently tone the body. Short cardio intervals are also incorporated into each class which helps boost the metabolism and burn fat in a safe and effective way.
This class is a great complement to your Pilates or yoga routine, in addition to cross-training for other fitness or sport modalities. All levels are welcome.

Benefits of Barre

  • Small classes at MLS allow for an intimate and non-intimidating setting. Instructors pay close attention to form and alignment, ensuring each session is safe and effective.
  • Our team of barre instructors have multiple fitness certifications, years of teaching experience, and are motivating and supportive.
  • Barre classes are fun, dynamic, and engaging. Choreographed to the latest, upbeat music, you’ll feel uplifted and energized.
  • Using body weight and light weights, get full-body toning for long and lean muscles. We work multiple muscle groups at once, targeting both major and supporting muscle groups.
  • Build muscle and burn calories at the same time, getting more rapid results, while losing weight and inches. The lean muscle mass you’ll build will help increase your metabolism and burn more calories throughout the rest of your day.
  • Classes are cardiovascular, good for your heart, and stress-busting.
  • Barre is high intensity, yet low impact. It’s easy on the joints, and helps prevent future joint wear, while increasing flexibility, range of motion, and endurance.
  • With small classes and attentive instructors, we can modify each class, making it suitable for almost anyone. Our barre is effective for beginners as well as seasoned barre pros. You won’t get bored with MLS’ barre, helping you always stay challenged and motivated.
  • Our barre classes emphasize balanced training that targets all areas of the body, including the arms and shoulders, back and hips, abs and legs, and of course, the booty.
  • By working with good form and correct alignment in mind, you can improve posture and reduce common aches and pains.
  • Barre is a great cross-training modality for other sports and activities, like running or cycling. Barre incorporates exercises with full range of motion, and trains the body evenly, unlike other sports which are linear in motion and injury prone.
